In our rapidly changing world, studios are examining the whole value chain and demanding action. More and more organisations are declaring Scope 3 as part of their decarbonisation strategies. Roots, our new carbon calculator, interprets what that means for SMEs’ net zero plans.

We are excited to announce the launch of Roots, our new TV & Film production industry-specific carbon calculator and impact reduction toolkit. It lets any supplier – from caterers, location providers and camera suppliers, to costumiers, IT support and more – to measure their carbon footprint, then get clear, active steps to reduce it.

We have been working with the Carbon Footprint Calculator for the last 5 years, who have an in depth understanding of the industry supply chain, so their partnership in developing this bespoke calculator has been invaluable.

As studios start to address the impact of their supply chain emissions (known as Scope 3), sustainable suppliers with carbon reduction strategies are going to be their preferred choice.

We know that putting sustainability front-and-centre in your business plan doesn’t just help you adapt to new regulations – it marks you out as an ambitious and responsible company. Which, in turn, helps you to unlock new business and attract and retain the best talent. Everyone wins.

Roots tracks carbon footprints using a science-based methodology and the platform also includes how-to guides, technical support resources and bespoke carbon reduction strategies, as well as tips on quick wins.

It’s available at three levels to accommodate different budgets and company sizes – and gives all subscribers a recognised accreditation, which shows studios and productions evidence of solid environmental credentials.

Science-based, measurable, technically informed and realistic.

We can’t wait to see it make the change that needs to happen in our industry happen sooner.
