Impact Series: Building Brighter Futures with Habitat for Humanity GB

At Sustainable Film, we’re always looking for ways to keep valuable materials from productions in circulation and support communities in the process. One of the incredible charities we work with is Habitat for Humanity GB, an organisation dedicated to tackling housing poverty by building and renovating homes for those in need. With a mission to create a world where everyone has a safe place to live, they work across the UK and internationally, helping families achieve security and stability through decent housing.

Across our productions, we ensure that set materials, furniture, and useful items don’t go to waste. When materials are no longer needed, we first seek to pass them on to upcoming productions. If that’s not possible, we donate to organisations like Habitat for Humanity GB, ensuring they make a meaningful impact. Recent donations from our productions have included a range of useful items, such as fridges, bespoke chairs made by Props, timber, plywood, MDF offcuts, and various furniture and homeware pieces.

Materials and items donated to Habitat for Humanity GB are repurposed in several ways. Some go directly into housing projects, helping to furnish or build homes for families in need. Others are sold through ReStore, their network of charity home improvement stores, where proceeds go towards funding more housing projects. This model not only reduces waste but also ensures that essential supplies are affordable and accessible to the wider community. The impact of these donations goes beyond sustainability; they provide tangible resources for people rebuilding their lives. Whether it’s timber being used for essential construction or fridges finding a new home, every item contributes to a meaningful cause.

Right now, Habitat for Humanity GB is in need of paint, hand tools, and flooring to support their current housing and community projects. If you’re in a position to donate, whether as an individual or a business, your contribution can make a huge difference. Keeping materials in circulation not only benefits the environment but also helps transform lives by providing safe and secure housing for those in need.

By working together, we can reduce waste and make a lasting impact. If you’d like to learn more about how to support Habitat for Humanity GB, visit their website or check out their nearest ReStore.
