New Hope is making a difference for people experiencing homelessness. At Sustainable Film, we’re honoured to work with this charity, donating items from film productions to support individuals transitioning into stable housing. This includes everything from props to food supplies – keeping resources in circulation and making a real difference in the local community.

Impact Series: New Hope’s “Home for Christmas” Appeal

As the festive season draws near, we would like to promote the work of New Hope, a remarkable Watford-based charity with over three decades of dedication to helping people experiencing homelessness. Founded in 1990 as a local soup kitchen, New Hope now offers compassionate support, accommodation, and services to those in need. Next week, they will be launching their Home for Christmas appeal on 3rd December. This campaign is set to make a big impact: all donations made in the first week will be match-funded, doubling the difference each gift can make. Last year’s appeal raised an impressive £57,500, and with the generosity of supporters and local residents, New Hope is aiming even higher this year.

New Hope also maintain an Amazon wishlist, which outlines essential items for those transitioning into stable housing. These include everyday items like bedding, kitchenware, and toiletries – things we often take for granted but that can make a world of difference to someone moving into a new home. For anyone looking to help directly, this list is a great place to start: newhope.org.uk/wishlist.

At Sustainable Film, we’re proud of our partnership with New Hope, which allows us to donate items and materials from productions that are still in good condition and can serve a second purpose. Over the years, we’ve contributed a wide range of useful items, from crowd costumes and props, to stationery and food supplies. During a recent production based at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, our Sustainability team ran a crew donation drive that gathered 178 items of toiletries and clothing for New Hope. By working closely with the New Hope team, we’re able to keep resources in circulation and support local communities, all while reducing unnecessary waste.

Rebecca Palmer, Fundraising and Communications Manager at New Hope, shared her appreciation: “New Hope is incredible grateful for the support of Sustainable Film. We have received so many helpful items, such as microwaves and toasters, which we have been able to pass onto people moving into their own homes following a period of homelessness. It’s great that these items aren’t wasted but go to people who desperately need them and are so appreciative. Sustainable Film has such an amazing ethos and we love working with them. Everyone benefits!”

If you’re considering a charitable donation this holiday season, please consider supporting New Hope’s Home for Christmas appeal and help give the gift of a warm, safe home. Together, we can make a powerful difference.
